PAS seems sincere about Malay unity talks, says Najib

Najib: Umno open to talks with PAS

PAS seems sincere in its wish for Malay unity talks, Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

He said the talks would just be a starting point.

“We have to make inquiries first. It’s like when we want to get married. We make inquiries first,” he said.

“If it happens, it happens, let fate decide. What form (of unity government) materialises, we do not know yet.”

He was speaking to reporters after the opening of the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (17CCEM) here yesterday.

Najib said Umno had never declined any cooperation which could benefit the country.

“It is not that there is no response from us. I have already mentioned that Umno is open and willing to listen and consider whatever proposals,” he said.

Najib said Umno was open to any discussion with PAS as it would be for the good of the country.

“We will see what sort of cooperation is suitable and after that we can discuss. There is no problem to it.”

Umno had said the idea of holding unity talks came from PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang but it was willing to go along with it.
